Yoga classes around Sydney are encouraging kids and teens to disconnect from the iPad and TV, so that they can connect with others, and themselves instead. Here's where your child can bend, stretch and strengthen, have a laugh, and recharge!

Yogala, Maroubra

This boutique, stripped back studio runs Yoga for Children 6-12, followed by Yoga for Teens on Wednesday afternoons. Classes have been created with the younger mind in mind, giving students the chance to work on their strength, flexibility and focus, and to understand not only their yoga poses, but also their emotions. Super Kids Yoga, Rozelle and Glebe

Meet Radha Babicci: the brains behind Super Kids Yoga, she has a BA in Early Childhood Education, so her yoga classes align with the first five outcomes of the Early Years Learning Framework; these focus on sense of self, and connection with others as a means of supporting all aspects of children's wellbeing. This isn't yoga as you know it; from story telling and making letters of the alphabet with their bodies, Super Kids Yoga will get the kids excited to stretch, move and challenge themselves, physically and mentally. The After School Kids Yoga Club is for kids aged 4-8, and runs on Thursdays from 3.30-4.30pm in Rozelle; the Glebe class runs on Sundays from 2-3pm and is aimed at children 3-6.  Click here for bookings and enquiries.

Marrickville Yoga Centre

If your little one isn't so keen on yoga but you think it could be good for them, Yoga 4 Kids at Marrickville Yoga Centre might be just the solution. Teaching yoga not just through physical practice, but with stories and games, the kids won't even realise they're doing yoga! Conveniently scheduled on a Saturday afternoons, you can book a casual class or eight-week term, or better yet - sign your kid up with a sibling, cousin or friend for a special 2 for 1 offer. Darling Quarter Kids Yoga

The kids will feel like they're playing Twister at this new and FREE yoga program in Darling Quarter! Qualified children's yoga specialist Dee Dee Conno takes the yoga studio outdoors with two half hour pre-schooler sessions every Friday (10.30-11am, 11.30am-12pm) at the Village Green North. Primary school kids can join in on the fun in the school holidays, and if you'd like to nama-stay, parents and sitters are welcome to join in! If it's a rainy day, no stress - the classes will move indoors at the Monkey Baa Theatre foyer.

Make a day of it and treat yourselves to lunch after at one of Darling Quarter’s mouth-watering eateries - we're thinking burgers at The Social Quarter, or there's Umi Sushi if you're feeling virtuous post-yoga...but the Gelatissimo nearby might change that! Pro-tip: If you're driving here, you'll find parking at the Wilson Parking lot - although we reckon a train trip into the city will only add to the day's adventure!
