It’s the perfect activity for families on cold and rainy winter days: a solid 2 hours of entertainment for them, and a little bit of quiet time for you!

Check out some of the Winter 2017 (June/July/August) movie blockbusters guaranteed to keep the whole family entertained, showing at all the major cinemas.

1. Despicable Me 3

Release date: 15 June 2017

Rating: PG

Running time: 90 minutes

Everybody's favourite little yellow friends are back! The third instalment of this popular series will see the adventures continue for Gru, Lucy, their adorable daughters—Margo, Edith and Agnes—and the Minions. Gru is set to face off against the villainous Balthazar Bratt, a former child star who has grown up to become obsessed with the character that he played in the '80s, and gets into some sibling rivalry when he meets his long-lost charming, cheerful, and more successful twin brother Dru who wants to team up with him for one last criminal heist to steal the diamond that Bratt has stolen.

2. Cars 3

For little rev-heads! When the legendary Lightning McQueen suffers a devastating accident mid-race and retirement seems imminent, his glory days seem long gone. But he's determined to reenter the pack of competitors and find his way back to the race track. To do so, he has to rely on the expertise of young technician Cruz Ramirez and a dose of inspiration from the late Fabulous Hudson Hornet.

3. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul

Based on the record-breaking book series, a family road trip to attend Meemaw’s 90th birthday party goes hilariously off course, thanks to Greg’s newest scheme to (finally!) become famous. Despite planning for a long Summer of just hanging out, his eyes light up when he realises a trip to a gaming convention to meet YouTube sensation Mac Digby could prove quite fruitful.

4. Spider-Man: Homecoming

Perhaps one for older children, Spider-Man coming back to the big screen is set to thrill comic book fans and superhero lovers! A young Peter Parker, who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging superhero. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May, under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark. Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.

Get Crafty At The Movies

These school holidays, Event Cinemas, are making going to the movies even more fun with creative craft sessions. Running from the 3 - 16 July -  kids can take part in crafty fun each day - ranging from making your own Minion goggles to creating a Cars 3 Pit Pass.
