Llynden, one of our ellaslist explorers, took her family to experience the Disney Zone at the V8 Supercars Sydney Motorsport Park Supersprint.

Okay. Here we go, focus. Speed. I am speed. One winner, forty-two losers. I eat losers for breakfast.

Disney’s Cars is a movie that is watched endlessly in our house. If you have kids like ours that love cars and the Cars movies, the V8 Supercars events will bring Lightning McQueen roaring to life for them. From the moment the kids heard the cars racing, they were looking out for McQueen’s characteristic flash of red.

The Disney Zone
We spent most of our time in the Disney Zone, an absolute oasis for kids and parents. The chance to see Lightning McQueen and Mack the Transporter up close and have their photo taken with them was exciting for the kids.

The Disney Zone offers a variety of activities that can keep kids occupied for hours! Our 5 year old particularly enjoyed racing for the Piston Cup around the tricycle race track. He also tried ice-skating for the first time at the new Disney Zone ice rink (recommended for 5 to 12 year olds). But alas, it’s fake ice, so be forewarned if your child has their heart set on recreating the closing scene of Frozen.

The inflatable slides and obstacle course provided a great opportunity for the kids to run and jump and use up some energy. After working up a sweat, the craft and iPad zone and the chance to watch some of the Cars movie was a welcome break (especially for the parents!).

While our 2 year old was a bit small for some of the activities, she enjoyed the small enclosed playground that is part of the Disney Zone at the Sydney Motorsport Park. Her swing with a view of the racetrack was a fun way to watch some of the races.

Sydney Motorsport Park
SONY DSCThere was loads of activity happening throughout the park during the race. It was great to see some of the cars up close, and to watch a race crew in action behind the scenes. Plenty of food was available right across the venue, mostly the usual event fair of hotdogs, chips, donuts and drinks (with the usual event prices!).

The Motorsport Park is not completely pram-friendly – there are some unavoidable stairs getting from one end of the park to the other. However, the staff we encountered were incredibly friendly and helped us navigate the park with our pram.

Never thought of taking your kids to the V8 Supercars?
This was our first experience at the V8 Supercars, and the enormous roar and vibration of the V8s as they race is truly something to be experienced! Big car enthusiasts will love the chance to get up close with some of the V8s, watch a race crew at work, or get the autograph of a driver, while the Disney Zone is ideal for little car enthusiasts.

Top Tips

  • Bring or buy earmuffs or headphones for kids who don’t enjoy a lot of noise – it’s loud!
  • Check out the parking options at the venue before you arrive, and look for any shuttle buses that move around the venue – it’s big!
  • There’s not a lot of shade cover, so come prepared for some time in the sun, and be sure to bring hats and sunscreen!
