We have scoured the coastline and found the best kid-friendly beaches all across Sydney. From protected swimming areas to beaches with cafes and playgrounds, these make for an awesome day at the beach with the extra facilities that families need. They’ll make you proud to be a Sydney-sider, too!

Northern Beaches

We found 6 awesome kid-friendly beaches in Pittwater alone! We also love Palm Beach, the rock pool at the south end in particular, as well as Shelly Beach with its golden sand and wide array of marine life, perfect for beginner snorkelers. Check out our full list here.

North Shore

The North Shore has some beautiful beaches with calm waters, perfect for little swimmers. Our favourites include Clontarf Beach with a big reserve at the back of it, and Balmoral Beach for a stroll along the promenade after your swim. Check out our full list here.

South Sydney

Sydney-siders shouldn’t forget that South Sydney has some great beaches for kids! Shelly Beach is a short walk from the busy Cronulla Beach, and we love the National Park backdrop that the Bundeena Beaches offers. Check out our full list here.

Eastern Suburbs

Families just can’t go past Clovelly- with a rock pool, 25m salt water swimming pool, playground, gentle waters, kiosk and places for older kids to jump off- it’s a sure fire Eastern Suburbs favourite. Check out our full list here.

Harbour Beaches

Nothing is more kid friendly (or Instagram-worthy) than a harbour beach. They usually have protected, netted swimming areas, calm waters, and less crowds than the big surf beaches. Our favourites include Camp Cove in Watson’s Bay and the often deserted Milk Beach in Vaucluse. Check out our full list here.

Some Extra Ones

If you like the sound of getting in on the latest craze with stand-up paddle boarding, learning to surf or sun-baking just isn’t for your family, check out one of Sydney’s best action beaches. If you want to avoid the crowds and swim somewhere truly special, try your luck at finding one of Sydney’s best secret beaches- we spilled the beans! If marine critters are your thing, try one of Sydney’s best snorkelling spots. Take your little mermaid to hunt for crabs in one of Sydney’s best rock pools, or skip the beach all together and try a great indoor or outdoor pool in Sydney instead!
