Although its sparkling waters are dazzling by day, there’s something especially magical seeing all those bright lights at night. There’s a buzz in the air and plenty to see. So, for a completely different Darling Harbour experience, head down at dusk and enjoy our pick of the best things to do with kids after dark.

1. Get Blown Away


It’s not just New Year’s Eve that you’ll find amazing fireworks in Darling Harbour. Every Saturday evening at 8.30pm – check website for details), Darling Harbour’s night sky lights up with a spectacular free firework display. So grab yourself a ringside seat or a bite to eat in one of the many harbour side restaurants and enjoy the fabulous light display – the family will love it!

2. Get Enlightened


Every Tuesday through until Sunday, experience the radiant digital facade that spans 150 metres, Luminous at Darling Quarter.  This is public play, art and communication like you’ve never seen it before. 557 LED lights that possess interactive capabilities will leave you in absolute wonder.

3. Play Lit Up


You may have visited theDarling Harbour Children’s Playground Darling Harbour Children’s Playground during the day but did you know this fantastic, innovative play space lights up at dusk for the most epic night-time playground experience ever! Your only difficulty…persuading them to leave so you can fit in all the other cool night-time activities!

4. Harbourside Dining


Darling Harbour brings the goods in terms of delicious family-friendly eats. Here are just a few of our favourites. Baia The Italian offers outdoor tables next to the water, or try the famous seafood platter at Blue Fish Seafood.  Gerogie’s Spuds and Snags is perfect for the best ever gourmet baked potatoes, and why not finish off with dessert and the incredible Andersen’s of Denmark for some fresh ice cream made on site daily. Top it off with a hot choccie and stroll, maybe to the backdrop of the Saturday evening fireworks.

5. Catch a Flick


But not just any old flick! How about one on the world’s largest cinema screen! IMAX Theatre will be soon showing some family favourites including The Jungle Book, Batman v Superman, or the awesome 3D Zootopia. A bucket of popcorn and entertained children…the perfect night out!
